Week 2 Lesson Plan (of sorts)

the review of last week's input will use the 'fishbone' in classtools. you will get the chance to play with some of the tools before we start the lesson 'proper' - make something you haven't tried before and embed it into your blog (and Moodle page if you want).

We're following a 'flipped' approach to part of this session. i.e. you have done the theory part already and now should be ready for the analysis and application. In theory, it enables me to differentiate more effectively and to target support better.

1. You should by now have completed the webquest.  If not, it would be wise to get that done very soon...it's part of the assessment

2. an online discussion using 'padlet'. Once you have contributed, make your own padlet.

3. Demo and application: The next part will use a range of very useful skills when managing the huge amount of stuff that is on the web: making webquests or link collections by using, shortening and hiding hyperlinks in words and pictures. Many of you will know how to do this already so may want to skip directly to creating webquests using a google form.

Putting a link into a blog post video

Other useful skills: Using the snipping tool, 'harvesting' images, using powerpoint as a way of making images, using these skills to make your blog look nice.

Hopefully there'll be time for creating QR codes and perhaps  bookmarking in Office documents

4.  Using an online storage portal. To share documents like powerpoints and word docs the tool I recommend is a box account. Google drive is great but it doesn't have box.com's panache!

  • you may also want to actually produce some additional resources using: classtools.net
  • extension work:

between you (i.e. in pairs and threes...see if you can a. upload a document to box.com b. copy the link to it and post it to your blog and c. embed a document into a different blog post.

checklist (I sent you a file via e mail and (if I have your google account e mail) directly to your google account after last session- to find it again go to Google Drive and 'shared with me'. You can edit this document and so can I )
Your final task: Edit the checklist by putting a link to your dfilm in the 'storytelling box' and your blog

Bonus item:online spinner:
link to: random name picker on classtools

"We are busy, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes, in lieu of lunch, we manage to find 10 mins to do the Guardian crossword in competitive teams. To select these teams one of my colleagues has made a cardboard spinner with our faces on it. It’s novel but not really that ‘spinny’ if truth be told. Today, realising that there may well be an online solution I stumbled upon this:http://www.mathsisfun.com/data/spinner.php . It’s not just for maths. I changed the labels to names. You can change the number of sections and use it as a random name generator. One warning though: adjust the power and drag frequently or it ends up in the same areas" Martin Compton
